Kodiak Island, Alaska – On the first day’s hunt, I always carry too much stuff. Wiser on the second day, I pare down to the bare essentials: rain gear, lunch, field-dressing gear and so on. What I don’t want to carry is a pack that weighs a bunch on its own. Cabela’s Ultralight Hunter Rucksack is made of SC210 Extreme fabric, a lightweight, tough, silicone-coated fabric that stood up to day after day of tough use as I climbed, crawled and fought through alder tangles and all sorts of thorny brush. In the rain. And snow. None of my gear inside ever got wet. It has a functional design, with a large

This pack includes a durable frame and lots of other great hunting pack features.

This review was written by Michael Faw .  In it he tell in great detail what makes the Alaskan Outfitter Frame Pack the top of the line hunting packs for wilderness hunters.  He has titled his review “Leader of the Packs” for good reason.  Take a look at all the great features this hunting pack has to offer the back country hunter.

Leader of the Packs

By Michael Faw

Ever backpack to your favorite remote hunting location to spend a week hunting? Ever downed a big game animal in a remote region, and needed a pack or frame to haul the quarters or hide and antlers? If you can answer yes to those questions, then I have found an answer to your needs-Cabela’s Alaskan Outfitter Frame Pack.

The first thing I noted about this large and roomy pack, was that it arrived in my favorite color–Advantage Timber camouflage. Next, I took note of the adjustable suspension system with its well padded hip and shoulder straps. You can tweak this backpack numerous ways to achieve a true custom fit. Almost anyone in your hunting camp, or on your hunting adventure, now has no good excuse for not shouldering their share of the packing routine!

The next impressive feature of the Alaskan Outfitter Frame Pack is the sturdy exterior frame. It’s constructed of reinforced aluminum, is adjustable, and can be used solo as a meat-packing frame. The bottom shelf helps secure any load, and prevents items from slipping down and tripping you. The upper bar extends to provide an anchor point for your sleeping bag, or as a way to securely fasten any load of any size. The frame also has an attached, blaze orange, compression pod to make sure that you’re visible and safe during hunting season.   Read the rest of Michael’s hunting pack review…

Cabela’s Bow and Rifle Hunting Pack Review

Here is a great hunting pack review of Cabelas Bow and Rifle Pack.  Like several of the offerings from Eberlestock and Badlands this pack allows you to secure your bow or rifle to your pack while you make your way to the perfect hunting area.

This hunting pack designed for Cabelas is using CS450 Plus material that is quiet and weather proof.  This pack has pleanty of room for storage, yet is small enough for the short hunts as well.

Here is a story written by Mark Nelsen.  He gives a great real world hunting pack review of the Cabelas Bow and Rifle Pack.  Enjoy

Cabela’s Bow and Rifle Pack Review

Keeping your hands free for hiking, glassing and calling while moving from one hunting area to the next can be invaluable. The new Bow/Rifle Pack from Cabela’s carries the load so you can concentrate on hunting.

Six miles and 3,500 vertical feet – that was our goal for the next few hours. I’ve done this trek every September for the past several years; it’s the arduous hike into our elk camp. Each fall, as the aspens begin to turn, we load our gear and pack animals onto truck and trailer, making the day-long journey from flatlands to base camp along a lonely Forest Service road. Once there, after a restless night’s sleep under a Rocky Mountain sky, we begin our forced march skyward, each of use leading a horse or mule loaded down with panniers of food, camping gear and other essentials. We each carry our own pack as well, to help ease the burden of our critters. We repeat this ritual each fall during archery and muzzleloader elk seasons, and most years some of us will be packing in a bow, while others carry a long gun.

As much as I appreciate a horse or a mule for packing, I’ve never entrusted them to carry my bow or rifle on the trail.  Read the rest of this story…
